High-stakes poker pro Alex “Kanu7” Millar didn’t start off 2016 on the upswing. Just weeks ago, he ended his sponsorship with PokerStars over controversial changes to the site’s VIP rewards program.
The British grinder lost $113,000 over the past seven days on the site, according to tracking data from HighstakesDB. Joining Millar with a six-figure loss on the week were “WRUUUUM” (-$117,348), “d2themfi” (-$114,710) and Mikael “ChaoRen160” Thuritz (-$101,719).
With nearly 5,500 hands played during the stretch, Millar put in the most volume out of anyone on the win and loss leader boards.
On the flip side, “BERRI SWEET” ($157,809), “St1ckman” ($141,380), Matt “MUSTAFABET” Ashton ($122,711) and Sami “Lrslzk” Kelopuro ($88,989) all had solid weeks.
BERRI SWEET won the largest pot of the year so far on Friday, Jan. 8. The poker pro raked in a $169,249 pot at $100-$200 Omaha with the A A 10 9.
BERRI SWEET and “Aron0621” got about $80,000 in preflop with both holding aces. Aron0621 held the A A 9 7 for a slightly weaker hand. According to Card Player’s Omaha Odds Calculator, they chop about 60 percent of the time. BERRI SWEET scoops 23.6 percent of the time. Aron0621 wins it all 16.73 percent of the time.
The flop fell K 8 7, which didn’t change a whole lot, as they still chop half the time. BERRI SWEET had an open-ended straight draw to go along with his aces, while Aron0621 had outs after flopping bottom pair. BERRI SWEET’s scoop chances did increase to 37.44 percent.
The turn was the 3, giving BERRI SWEET a flush draw as well. That card kept the probabilities about the same as they were on the turn. However, a K on the river gave BERRI SWEET the entire pot with the nut flush, putting the bad beat on Aron0621.
