Joseph Cappello has won the 2016 World Series of Poker Circuit Horseshoe Baltimore $1,675 no-limit hold’em main event, outlasting a field of 894 entries to win his first circuit gold ring and the first-place prize of $292,500.
“This (circuit ring) means a lot. It means more than any amount of money I’ve ever won,” Cappello told WSOP.com reporters after the tournament wrapped up. “To win an event like this with all these great players, 890 players, it feels excellent.”
In addition to the title, the hardware and the money Cappello also earned 912 Card Player Player of the Year points. This was his second final table finish of the year, and as a result he has moved into 50th place in the overall POY standings with 1,062 total points and year-to-date earnings of $310,848.
The final day of this event began with 17 players remaining and Cappello toward the middle of the pack. He was able to survive and thrive, making it to heads-up play against Matt Bond holding a slight chip lead.
The two battled it out for 61 hands. The final deal of the tournament saw Bond move all-in from the button for less than ten big blinds with the Q7 only to have Cappello call with the 88. The board ran out K10833 to give Cappello the winning full house, sending Bond to thee rail as the runner up with $180,750.
