The European Poker Tour's last event of its third season, the EPT Grand Final at the Monte Carlo Bay Hotel and Casino Resort in Monte Carlo, Monaco, is capping off a record-breaking season with a tournament that itself is breaking records.
The EPT Grand Final, which entered its second day today, boasts the largest field of any EPT event to date, and with more than 660 players (an exact total won't be known until later today), it produced the largest prize pool of any tournament held outside the United States.
With so many players, the starting groups had to be broken up into two. The second group started today, and a player total is not yet available.
The event has a €10,000 buy-in, and many of the players qualified for much less through PokerStars, which is the main online poker room sponsoring the EPT. The EPT Grand Final ends April 2.
Players who made it through the first day include Greg Raymer, Victor Ramdin, Barry Greenstein, Katja Thater, Noah Boeken, and Chris Moneymaker. Those playing today include Joe Hachem, Lee Nelson, Bertrand Grospellier, Isabelle Mercier, Bill Chen, and Vanessa Rousso.
Jeff Williams, a 19-year-old American, won the Grand Final last year. He took back about $1.1 million home with him to the States. Last year, four players who made the final table, including Williams, qualified for the Grand Final through PokerStars.

Almost all eight events of EPT's third season surpassed the number of players who competed last year. The tour hit Barcelona, London, Austria, Dublin, Denmark, and Warsaw.
