The Bellagio wrapped up the Five Diamond World Poker Classic Sunday night with the conclusion of the $100,000 buy-in super high roller event. A total of 38 entries were tallied, creating a prize pool of $3,724,000.
In the end, the title and a top prize of $1,439,274 went to German poker pro Jan Eric Schwippert after a heads-up deal he made with Tom Marchese.
This was Schwippert’s third final table of the week, having finished sixth in an Aria high roller event for $51,600 and third in a Bellagio high roller event for $134,160. In total, he now has more than $2.3 million in live tournament earnings.
Marchese banked $1,018,566 for his runner-up performance, the sixth seven-figure score of his career, bringing his total lifetime earnings to more than $15 million. He is now in 16th place all-time, just behind 2014 WSOP main event winner Martin Jacobson.
Marchese dominated in 2016, despite recording only two tournament cashes outside of Las Vegas. With the Aria as his main stomping grounds, the New Jersey native managed to make 13 final tables with buy-ins of $25,000 or higher, winning three events. As a result of his latest score, he now sits in 10th place in the Card Player Player of the Year standings.
Finishing in third place was Talal Shakerchi, who earlier this year won the PokerStars SCOOP main event for nearly $1.5 million. Erik Seidel, who has now earned more than $5 million on the tournament circuit in back-to-back years, took fourth place.
The rest of the in-the-money finishers were rounded out by Christian Christner in fifth and Ankush Mandavia in sixth.
