New York’s casino gambling market is set to get even more crowded.
Syracuse.com reported that the Oneida Indian Nation plans to build a $40-50 million casino on its land in the town of Sullivan in Madison County, about 20 miles from downtown Syracuse.
The tribe is the owner and operator of Turning Stone Casino in Verona.
The target opening for the property to be called Point Place Casino is spring of next year. The tribe plans to have 500 slot machines and 20 table games.
The tribe most recently opened its Yellow Brick Road Casino in Chittenango in 2015.
The plan is for the new casino to compete with the Del Lago Resort Casino, which opened in February. Over the last five months, three new non-tribal casinos have opened in upstate regions of the Empire State. A fourth commercial casino will open next year.
Just days ago, the Oneida Nation announced the launch of a social casino platform. The move comes as New York lawmakers mull over a plan to legalize real-money online poker.
The Oneida Nation is one of three federally recognized tribes with gaming in the Empire State. There are 10 tribal casinos, three commercial casinos and nine commercial racinos statewide.
