On Monday, a $510 million tribal casino opened in the state of Washington in the Portland-Vancouver metro area.

The facility, Ilani Casino Resort, has 75 table games and 2,500 slot machines. There’s no poker room, but there will be one “eventually,” the casino told Card Player.

The casino said there’s no date set for poker.

According to a report from The Colombian, the casino from the Cowlitz Indian Tribe was developed through a partnership with the Mohegan Tribe of Connecticut.

Construction began in January 2016.

Whenever Ilani gets a poker room it could serve a local poker market in disarray.

There are some 20 poker rooms in the Portland area, though some have come under threat in recent months thanks to discrepancies between local regulation and state law.

There’s legislation (HB 2190) currently being considered that could result in the shutdown of organized poker in Portland. The legislation would allow cities and counties to authorize “social” poker games only if they are operated and controlled by a charitable, fraternal or religious organization. For-profit businesses and clubs would no longer be allowed to have poker.

The bill currently sits in committee.
