The final table is set in the 2017 World Series of Poker $50,000 Poker Players Championship eight-game mix event. Four full days of action have seen the field of 100 players narrowed down to just six remaining with a shot at adding their name to the David ‘Chip’ Reese Memorial Trophy, in addition to winning the bracelet and the $1,395,767 first-place prize. The chip leader heading into the six-handed final table is none other than six-time bracelet winner and two-time Card Player Player of the Year award winner Daniel Negreanu.
Negreanu bagged up 5,930,000 chips heading into what will be his first ever Poker Players Championship final table. He has cashed twice before in this event, finishing 12th last year and 13th in 2008, when the tournament was still utilizing the popular H.O.R.S.E. five-game mix format. With $32,657,466 in prior live tournament earnings Negreanu is poker’s all-time money leader, and he will extend his lead over Erik Seidel by at least $220,111 as all the remaining players are guaranteed to cash for at least that much. This is Negreanu’s 104th WSOP cash, which leaves him tied with Charles Moore for the fourth most in history.
Joining Negreanu at the final table are several top players, as you would expect in this prestigious event. Isaac Haxton will come into the final day in second chip position, looking for his first WSOP bracelet. Mixed-game specialist Elior Sion is guaranteed his largest live cash in this event, as are Johannes Becker and Ivo Donev. Paul Volpe is the shortest stack at the final table, but the two-time bracelet winner has plenty of experience deep in WSOP events, as this is his ninth final table finish at the series.
Day 4 of this event resumed with 15 players remaining, all of them in the money and guaranteed at least a payday of $77,320. Several notable players hit the rail on the way to the final table, including 2017 $10,000 Razz winner James Obst (15th – $77,320), Ralph Perry (14th – $77,320), Talal Shakerchi (13th – $77,320), four-time bracelet winner Mike Matusow (12th – $97,328), three-time WSOP champ Ian Johns (10th – $125,142), Scott Seiver (9th – $125,142), 2013 champion of this event Matthew Ashton (8th – $164,286) and two-time bracelet winner Shaun Deeb (7th – $164,286).
The final six players will return to four more hands of Pot-Limit Omaha when play resumes at 2:00 p.m. local time on Thursday. Limits will resume at 120,000-240,000.
