After a successful beta test that featured more than 150 invitees, PokerStars has officially unveiled their virtual reality product to the online poker market.

PokerStars VR, developed in conjunction with Lucky VR, “provides the perfect mix of serious gameplay, fun interactivity and social engagement that adds a whole new poker realm for players and gamers to explore,” according to a press release.

In addition to choosing their environment, such as Macau in the future, or a saloon in the old west, players can also use the VR technology to peak at their hole cards, talk to their tablemates, and even pick up on the tells that are mostly absent from traditional online poker play.

PokerStars VR is now available for download on Oculus, Viveport, and Steam.

“When we showcased the product it was amazing to see people really enjoy and become engrossed in the game,” said PokerStars Director of Poker Innovation and Operations Severin Rasset. “We wanted to venture into the world of virtual reality because we believe it is an exciting avenue of technology to explore and something that our players would appreciate. I highly recommend that everyone tries out the game as it can only truly be understood and enjoyed by experiencing it.”

The Stars Group (TSG) is currently experiencing 74 percent year-over-year uptick in revenue, according to their third quarter earnings presentation. However, poker revenue was down 4 percent, with most of the increase coming from sports betting growth.

The Stars Group acquired Sky Betting and Gaming back in April, in a deal worth $4.7 billion.

In 2017, online poker accounted accounted for 67 percent of the total win, down from 73 percent in 2016. This year, The Stars Group is on track to see that number fall to just 36 percent as sports betting continues to play a bigger role in growing the company’s bottom line.
