Taylor Paur is no stranger to online poker success. In 2010 he made online 28 final tables, winning 13 titles along the way to securing the Card Player Online Player of the Year award. Paur has been focusing on the live tournament circuit in recent years, but showed that he could still put together a title run online by taking down the 2019 World Series of Poker $500 online ‘Summer Saver’ no-limit hold’em event. Paur topped a field of 1,859 total entries to win his second career gold bracelet and the top prize of $149,240.
In addition to the title and the money, Paur also earned 540 Card Player Player of the Year points for the win. The 2019 POY race is sponsored by Global Poker.
The event began at 3:30 p.m. local time on July 14. The final table of nine players was not set until roughly 2:00 a.m., with Brock “SquatCobbler” Parker holding the lead.
Brian ‘Penny6’ Mancilla was the first player to hit the virtual rail when his pocket sixes ran into the pocket jacks of Paur, who was playing under the screen name ‘Galactar’. Mancilla failed to improve and was eliminated in ninth place ($11,209.77).
The pocket jacks were then transferred to Joseph ‘Obamacare’ Hanrahan, who used them to knock out Timothy ‘TruthBeTold7’ Rutherford in eighth place ($14,555.97). Despite scoring that bustout, Hanrahan was the next to go. His AQ got all-in against the KK of Jason ‘JadedJason’ James. The kings held up and Hanrahan had to settle for $19,240.65.
David ‘SobBaget’ Liebman was the next to go when his A9 failed to outrace the 77 of Francois ‘4everrekt’ Evard. Liebman took home $25,598.43 as the sith-place finisher.
Evard also facilitated the next elimination. His overcards and flush draw outran the top pair of Jason James, making a flush on the bust James in fifth place ($34,549.51).
Paur surged into the lead by winning a massive clash with Brock Parker. With a flop of K86, Paur got all-in holding 106 to Parker’s KJ. The 9 on the turn have Paur the winning flush, and the 7 on the end through in a straight for good measure. Parker earned $47,18142 as the fourth-place finisher.
Paur increased his lead further by winning a flip against Satish ‘Jfksb’ Surapaneni. Paur called Surapaneni’s three-bet shove with 22. Surapaneni held the A10. Paur flopped a set and turned a full house to leave Surapaneni drawing dead. Surapaneni was awarded $65,250.90 for his deep run.
Heads-up play began with Paur holding 25,862,486 to Evard’s 11,317,514. Evard was able to battle his way back, even taking the lead at one point. Paur was able to regain the advantage by the time the final digital cards were dealt, however. Evard moved all-in with A8, only to have Paur quickly call with 22 for another pair of deuces. The 97369 runout locked up the pot and the title for Paur, while Evard took home $91.267.60 as the runner-up.
