With all of the additions the team made in the offseason, the Cleveland Browns were the talk of the NFL heading into the 2019 season.

One New Jersey gambler bought into the hype. And bought into it for a hefty sum.

According to a report from The Action Network, a bettor wagered $506,000 at Ocean Casino Resort in Atlantic City on the Browns to cover the spread against the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday night. The Browns were getting 4.5 points, but lost the game 20-13, and the bettor was out more than half of a million dollars.

Despite the massive wager, sportsbooks around the country took huge losses on the game. ESPN Chalk reported that just before kickoff at Caesars sportsbooks, 76.3 percent of the total amount bet on the spread, was on the Rams. An overwhelming 81.2 percent of the bets were on the squad from Southern California. At MGM properties, there was nine times as much money wagered on the Rams as there was on the Browns.

“Even with the big fluke bet we took, this result was still horrible for us,” Nick Bogdanovich, director of trading at William Hill sportsbook told The Action Network. “This game was a massive handle and we took all Rams from -2.5 to -4. And almost everything we took live was on the Rams.”

Bogdanovich also told the new media outlet that the gambler who bet huge on the Browns was the biggest bet the book took this season and the man who bet it was a regular customer.

Other huge bets from the third week of the NFL season included a $208,000 bet on the Vikings to beat the Raiders online at DraftKings. The bettor took the money-line at -370. The Vikings won 34-14 and the gambler netted about $56,200.

The online sportsbook PointsBet, which made headlines last week when it was reported that one gambler beat the book for $600,000, took another big loss this week. One bettor wagered $390,000 on a two-team parlay. He took the Packers and 49ers at -130. Both teams were victorious and the man earned $300,000.
