WSOP 2007: Bill ChenNot the Same as Last Year |
|
We spoke with Bill Chen on the eve of the World Series of Poker $10,000 championship event.
Card Player: The Series so far, how has it been?
Bill Chen: Not so good. I've had three cashes; one a little controversial.
[chen is referring to a deal he made in the heads-up event in which his opponent was willing to take a piece of his action to perhaps not play the match out to its logical conclusion. The exact details remain shrouded in silence.]
BC: I haven't made it really deep into the money anywhere. I think one I was close but missed the final table. But average over the last two years that might imply I have played well or gotten really lucky.
[At the 2006 WSOP, Bill had six cashes and two bracelets. He made day 2 of the main event this year but did not survive to day 3.]
CP: Did you play about the same number of events you planned on playing coming in?
BC: I am playing one or two events a day, rarely taking a day off, just because there are so many good events. I really like the schedule this year better than last year. Many more non-hold'em games. I just haven't been doing well.
CP: What's the best change this year at the Series?
BC: The 5 p.m. events are a great idea and all the tournaments that are not hold'em.
CP: What would you like to see changed for next year?
BC: Oh there are so many. One thing I would like is for them to be firm on when the dinner breaks are. It's very difficult to plan when they changed the breaks on the spur of the moment. In that same vein, sticking to the event schedule. When it says a two-day event, it should be played in two days not three. I plan my events based on the published schedule but it keeps changing once we start play. I want to be free that third day to play another event.
I think they will get their act together. This is the third year at the Rio and improvements happen each year. It's still better than smoke-filled Binions.
