Although more than half of the brick-and-mortar casinos in the U.S. have reopened following the COVID-19 shutdown, many poker rooms remain closed. With live poker options currently limited, our readers can now access Card Player Magazine for FREE!
Card Player Magazine and all of its contents are now available online, with a new edition out every two weeks. Check out the latest issue here.
This issue features author Maria Konnikova, who spent the last few years trying her hand at professional poker for her new book, The Biggest Bluff. The Harvard graduate earned her doctorate in psychology at Columbia University, later publishing two books, while being a regular contributer to The New Yorker.
Konnikova was interested in further exploring the concept of chance, and after reading John Van Neumann’s Theory of Games, decided to take on poker, despite having no knowledge of the game whatsoever. Cue eight-time WSOP bracelet winner Erik Seidel, who agreed to share his knowledge of the game.
With one of the world’s best players in her corner, Konnikova made a relatively smooth transition to the tournament circuit, making several deep runs and averaging six-figures in cashes each year of her experiment. She even won the PCA National Championship $1,650 no-limit hold’em event for $84,600.
You can also read about Maria Lampropulos, who currently sits in third place on Argentina’s all-time money list with $3.2 million in live tournament earnings. Lampropulos won the 2017 partypoker MILLIONS UK main event for $1,280,000, despite the fact that she was only a year removed from playing the micro stakes online.
You’ll also hear from Hollywood poker hustler and card mechanic Houston Curtis, one of the real players portrayed in the movie Molly’s Game. In his latest column, Curtis talks about the fateful night he lost seven figures to Rick Salomon.
Each issue of Card Player Magazine is loaded with the latest industry news, tournament results, player interviews, and strategy columns from brilliant poker minds such as Ed Miller, Gavin Griffin, Steve Zolotow, Matt Matros, Jonathan Little, Ryan Laplante, Greg Raymer, Evan Jarvis, Kevin Haney, and many more.
