Although the majority of the brick-and-mortar casinos in the U.S. have reopened following the COVID-19 shutdown, many poker rooms remain closed. With live poker options currently limited, our readers can now access Card Player Magazine
Card Player Magazine and all of its contents are now available online, with a new edition out every two weeks. Check out the latest issue here.
This issue features high-stakes tournament pro Seth Davies. The 31-year-old from Bend, Oregon was a standout baseball player in college before an injury led him to poker. In the years since, Davies has racked up more than $8.5 million in live tournament earnings, including a win on the World Poker Tour.
“It just feels wrong to me when I’m not working hard,” Davies said. “I have this big urge to do the work every day, but I wouldn’t say I’m one of those guys that’s like, ‘Man, I’ve got to be competing, I’ve got to be beating people.’ I think long term, that is a hurdle that would keep me from ever being legitimately the best or one of the absolute best. I’m fine with that. I’m in poker to make money, not to be the best.”
You can also read about 70-year-old Ron MacMillen, who made his way out to Las Vegas for the 2020 WSOP Online series, and managed to win his first career bracelet on his first ever online attempt. Despite the victory, however, MacMillen doesn’t think he’ll be playing online poker again any time soon.
The issue features a retro hand breakdown from Jonathan Little, and you’ll also get a column from mixed-games pro Melissa Burr, who thinks it’s time that the WSOP invested in the growth of games other than hold’em, especially during their online series.
Each issue of Card Player Magazine is loaded with the latest industry news, tournament results, player interviews, and strategy columns from brilliant poker minds such as Ed Miller, Gavin Griffin, Steve Zolotow, Matt Matros, Greg Raymer, Evan Jarvis, Kevin Haney, Linda Johnson, and many more.
