Will Joyner Wins 2021 Wynn Spring Classic $1,600 Buy-in Event For $243,188

The 2021 Wynn Spring Classic $1,600 buy-in no-limit hold’em event attracted a massive field of 1,251 total entries, blowing away the $1 million guarantee to create a final prize pool of $1,820,205. In the end, the largest share of that money was awarded to Will Joyner from Jackson, TN. Joyner took home $243,188 and the trophy after striking a heads-up deal with World Series of Poker bracelet winner Joey Weissman.

This was Joyner’s first-ever six-figure tournament score, with his largest previous cash being the $90,112 he earned as the winner of a $365 buy-in WSOP Circuit gold ring event during the 2017 WSOPC Hard Rock Tulsa stop. Joyner now has $367,382 in career lifetime earnings after this latest title run.

In addition to the money and the hardware, Joyner was also awarded 960 Card Player Player of the Year points for the win. This was his first POY-qualified score of the year, but it alone was enough to see him climb into a tie with James Carroll for 17th place in the 2021 POY race standings, which are sponsored by Global Poker.

The final day of the event began with 48 players remaining, with the money bubble having been burst the prior evening when the field was narrowed to 135 players. Plenty of big names made the final day, including two-time WSOP bracelet winner and Card Player Publisher Barry Shulman (31st – $10,734), recent Venetian DeepStack Showdown $1,100 buy-in ‘UltimateStack’ runner-up Keith Morrow(24th – $10,734), World Poker Tour Championship winner Asher Conniff (20th – $13,152), 2019 Poker Hall of Fame inductee David Oppenheim (15th – $18,624), and WSOP bracelet winner Jeremy Ausmus (9th – $29,433).

Weissman secured $230,090 as a result of the deal he cut with Joyner to bring the tournament to a conclusion. This was the second-largest score of his carer, behind only the $694,609 he earned for taking down the $2,500 buy-in no-limit hold’em bracelet at the 2012 WSOP. Weissman now has more than $3.5 million in career tournament earnings. The 800 POY points he earned for his second-place showing in this event moved him into 21st place in the overall ratings. His one previous final-table finish came just 11 days earlier, when he finished seventh in the $10,500 buy-in high roller event at this same tournament series for $41,500 and 120 points.
