Stephen Chidwick defeated a field of 68 entries to win the 2021 Poker Masters $10,000 no-limit hold’em high roller event, earning $183,600 for his first title of the year. The score increased the British poker pro’s career tournament earnings to more than $36.6 million, which is good for seventh place on poker’s all-time money list.
Chidwick has been one of the most dominant forces on the live tournament circuit in recent years, having finished seventh or higher in the Card Player Player of the Year race from 2017 through 2019, when he won the award outright. He took his time returning to the live circuit this year but has now made seven final tables since the start of June. As a result of his strong summer and this latest deep run, Chidwick now sits 37th place in the 2021 POY race, which is sponsored by Global Poker. The 184 PokerGO Tour points he earned as the champion of this event, moving him into 13th place on that leaderboard.
This victory also saw Chidwick climb inside the top five in the Poker Masters player of the series points race. He earned 184 points in this event and another 48 as the third-place finisher in the $10,000 eight-game mix. With 232 points, he now sits in fifth place.
“It feels great,” Chidwick told PokerGo reporters when asked about climbing into contention in the Poker Masters race. “I always feel like when I’m coming into a series like this that I’m one of the favorites to string together some big results and win the jacket. To get off the mark the past couple of days and put myself in contention, I guess it’s a bit of a relief heading into the higher stakes portion of the series to be able to be within striking distance.”
The final day of this event began with Chidwick in the chip lead and just five players remaining. Chidwick added to his lead early when he picked up pocket kings against the pocket eights of Dan Smith. The larger pair held up and Smith was eliminated in fifth place ($54,400). Smith remains one spot ahead of Chidwick on the all-time money list with $37,803,165 in career scores after this latest deep run.
World Poker Tour Seminole Hard Rock Poker Showdown main event champion Brek Schutten was the next to fall. He got all-in with A

leading the A7
of AP Louis Garza, but the board brought both an ace and a seven to see Schutten knocked out in fourth place ($68,000).
Despite earning that knockout, Garza was the next to hit the rail. He got all-in preflop and was again behind with A-7 trailing a superior A-X. Dylan Destefano’s A
J held up through a AK25K to eliminate Garza in third place ($88,400).
Heads-up play began with Chidwick holding roughly a 2:1 chip lead over Destefano. It took him roughly 20 minutes to convert that advantage into the title. In the final hand Destefano raised to 180,000 from the button with Q10 from the button. Chidwick three-bet to 550,000 with KK out of the big blind. Destefano called and the flop came down Q95. Chidwick bet 350,000 and Destefano called. The 3 on the turn prompted a 525,000 bet from Chidwick. Destefano called again and the 8 completed the board. Chidwick bet enough to put Destefano all-in and Destefano made the call with his top pair. Chidwick’s overpair was good for the pot and the title. Destefano cashed for $136,000 as the runner-finisher.
