The first World Series of Poker event to take place outside of the United States began today with the £2,650 H.O.R.S.E. event, which attracted 105 entrants. The tournament is the first of a three-tournament series to take place at The Casino at The Empire in LCI Leicester Square in London.

A two-day £5,250 pot-limit Omaha event starts on Saturday, and the six-day £10,350 championship event starts on Monday. One U.S. dollar is worth about half a British pound, so the buy-ins for all the events are roughly doubled in American dollars.

The best in the world are there trying to win the first WSOP bracelet that will be awarded in Europe, including Ted Forrest, Erik Seidel, Scott Fischman, Annie Duke, Doyle Brunson, Gus Hansen, Dave Ulliott, and many others.

Comparatively, the $5,000 H.O.R.S.E. event at this summer's WSOP in Las Vegas attracted 192 players.

Harrah's is expected to release the details of a TV deal that will feature WSOP Europe soon. Details of the deal are still being worked out.
