Richard Alsup Takes Down $800 Deepstack Event At 2022 World Series Of PokerTournament Grinder Matches His Poker Buddy With WSOP Bracelet |

The last $800 deepstack event on the 2022 World Series of Poker schedule attracted a huge field of 2,812 entrants, creating an overall prize pool of $1,979,648.
Despite the massive turnout, it only took two days to crown a champion, with circuit grinder Richard Alsup dragging the last pot of the tournament to earn his first career bracelet and $272,065.
Alsup was originally going to play another tournament in town, but his travelmate Rob Wazwaz convinced him that he had to take his chances at the WSOP. Wazwaz, of course, had a good reason to believe that, having won an earlier $800 deepstack at the series this summer.
“It feels phenomenal,” Alsup told WSOP reporters. “I haven’t really been a bracelet chaser but this one is really specail because my travel buddy Rob Wazwaz won the same event a month before. The stars aligned.”
This was the 38-year-old second biggest score, just behind the $273,430 he earned in a 2018 Venetian DeepStack event. The Minnesota resident is a regular on the Mid-States Poker Tour, with six final tables and a win. He now has $1.8 million in career tournament earnings.
Two-time bracelet winner Ari Engel finished third, adding $126,233 to his career earnings of more than $8 million.
Irish pro Marc MacDonnell settled for fifth place and $72,759. He has now finished fifth twice, fourth, and runner-up at the WSOP, but is still looking for his first bracelet.
Ukraine’s Artem Metalidi, who final tabled the 2018 WSOP main event, took sixth for $55,849.
Other notables with deep runs included Patrick Truong (7th), Ebony Kenney (15th), Timur Margolin (18th), Allyn Shulman (23rd), Ray Henson (26th), Carlos Welch (38th), Justin Lapka (39th), Benjamin Moon (47th), and Mukul Pahuja (48th).
