Limit hold'em players came out in droves last night to build a humongous prize pool for the latest event in the 2007
World Championship of Online Poker (
WCOOP)
.
Last night was event No. 7 in the 2007
PokerStars WCOOP, a $100,000-guaranteed limit hold'em tournament with a $200 buy-in (and $15 entry fee). That guarantee was absolutely smashed when 2,059 entrants bought in, generating a prize pool of $411,800, more than quadruple what PokerStars was assuring players. The first-place finisher stood to earn almost $81,000.
The final 20 players in the tournament included
Aaron "011180" Kanter (fourth-place finisher in the 2005
World Series of Poker and currently 10th in the
Card Player Online Player of the Year race) and
Chad "lilholdem954" Batista (currently third in the OPOY standings). Also still in the tournament was
ImaLuckSac, the PokerStars weekly tournament leader board leader for this week. ImaLuckSac eventually finished in 12th place ($2,347) while both 011180 and lilholdem954 made the final table. 011180's luck ran out when he busted in seventh place, earning $9,760, and lilholdem954 lasted until fivehanded play before he made his exit in fifth place, for $18,407.
Cardinal7 eventually defeated
TheMasterJ33 (another notable Internet player) in heads-up play to take down the tournament and pocket the $80,795 top prize. Cardinal7 also earned an exclusive gold
WCOOP bracelet for his finish.
The final results were:
- Cardinal7 - $80,795.16
- TheMasterJ33 - $40,768.20
- PapaPapsilon - $28,992.72
- superbrono - $23,472.60
- Chad "lilholdem954" Batista - $18,407.46
- Itchy - $13,877.66
- Aaron "011180" Kanter - $9,759.66
- cfinnn - $6,053.46
- Nirvana76 - $3,623.84
