Samy Boujmala has won the first-ever WPT Prime Aix-en-Provence, a €1,100 buy-in no-limit hold’em main event that was run in association with TexaPoker. The Frenchman outlasted a 457-entry field that turned out to the Pasino Grand, earning $102,938 for the win.
This was the second-largest score yet for Boujmala, trailing only the $251,611 he earned as the fifth-place finisher in this year’s European Poker Tour Monte Carlo €5,300 buy-in main event. He now has more than $491,000 in recorded lifetime earnings.
Boujmala secured 720 Card Player Player of the Year points as the champion of this event, bringing his total to the year to 1,520. With his two big scores this year, he now sits just outside the top 200 in the 2023 POY standings presented by Global Poker.
The strong turnout for this event made over the four available starting flights resulted in a final prize pool of $482,592. The top 59 finishers made the money, with notables that ran deep including 2011 EPT Snowfest main event third-place finisher Koen De Visscher (33rd), 2023 World Series of Poker millionaire maker runner-up Florian Ribouchon (20th), and WSOP bracelet winner Leon Soma (8th).
Loic Menneteau came into the final day of this event as the chip leader among the final eight. He survived down to heads-up play with Boujmala but was ultimately eliminated in second place. Menneteau took home $60,940 after his A-7 was outrun by Boujmala’s K-9 in the final hand. Boujmala flopped a king and held from there to secure the title and the six-figure top prize, which included a $10,400 seat in the 2023 WPT World Championship at Wynn Las Vegas which will run this December.
