Canadian police are looking to arrest a poker player alleged to be part of a string of burglaries in Ontario, Canada. Authorities believe Jordan Saccucci, 33, took part in 30 recent burglaries in the Hamilton and Toronto areas.
The news comes after Saccucci locked up quite a score in the world of poker about a year ago, winning the main event at the European Poker Tour stop in Prague for $962,000. The 33-year-old from Mississauga, Ontario, is now wanted along with three other men by the Halton Regional Police Service.
Details On The Crimes
Police allege that Saccucci works as part of a group of four men who enter homes and leave with valuables and cash. The other suspects sought in the case include Marcel Blackburn, 37, from Hagersville; Dumark Lindsay, 41, from Mississauga; and Paul Nkrumah, 36, from Brampton, Ontario.
According to CTV, police executed search warrants at suspect-related homes in Mississauga, Brampton, and Hagersville. Officers recovered numerous items believed to be stolen during the burglaries.
The suspects were not at the location, however, and remain on the run. Police also allege that the men know they’re wanted by authorities but have continued breaking into homes.
The latest crimes came on Nov. 22-23 in the Ontario cities of Oakville, Mississauga, and York. Police are asking residents not to make contact with the suspects and also outlined how the group allegedly go about committing the crimes.
“(Police) said the suspects may approach the front door during the day, while wearing surgical masks, face coverings, hoods and gloves to conceal their identities,” CTV reports. “Police also warn that the men, when confronted, may provide an ‘unconvincing excuse pertaining to some sort of construction or landscaping service’ before leaving.”
At The Poker Table
Saccucci has some considerable success at the poker table. The EPT win was the highlight of his career and he has $1.4 million in live tournament winnings. He also has a few nice finishes at World Poker Tour Canadian events as well, including several cashes this year.
This isn’t the first poker player facing heat in recent weeks. Shawn Sheikhan was recently sentenced to four years in federal prison after pleading guilty to running an illegal cannabis enterprise. The investigation involved agents from California state and federal law enforcement as well as the FBI and IRS.
