Strip Poker: Hilton Poker Room Closes Its DoorsCasino Calls It Quits Two Years After Reopening |
|
In this "Strip Poker" series, Card Player covers the Las Vegas poker scene - on The Strip and around the city.
Known as the "Home of Barry Manilow," the Las Vegas Hilton Casino was just as the title of one of Manilow's most popular songs, "Ready to Take a Chance Again," when it reopened its poker room on Sept. 2, 2005, after years of being closed . However, because of disappointing interest, the poker room is officially closing its doors on Oct. 17, just over two years after it reopened.
"We had to look at the overall picture and consider the utilization of space. The profit from the poker room was not as expected," said Ira Sternberg, vice president of communication for the Las Vegas Hilton. "We now plan to expand our slot product."
The Las Vegas Hilton is located just off of the famous Las Vegas Boulevard on Paradise Road. The room is the first to close near or on The Strip since the poker boom that began a few years ago. The poker room will close at midnight tonight unless a cash game is running. In that case, the players will be accommodated until the game breaks.
