The first of three $25,000 buy-in events that comprise the World Poker Tour Alpha8 Trifecta at Wynn Las Vegas wrapped up on Wednesday. The two-day event drew 78 entries, building a prize pool of $1,864,200. When the dust settled, Brock Wilson was the last player standing. The poker pro from New York secured $571,400 for the win, the second-largest score of his career.

Wilson now has more than $8.4 million in career tournament earnings to his name. His top payday saw him secure $619,536 for a runner-up finish in a $25,000 buy-in event at the 2019 Caribbean Poker Party.

This was Wilson’s first title and ninth final-table finish of the year. The 588 Card Player Player of the Year points he earned as the champion brought his total to 2,156, which is good for 69th place in the 2024 POY standings presented by Global Poker.

The top ten finishers made the money in this event. Sam Laskowitz was knocked out on the bubble, ensuring paydays of at least $57,100 to the remaining contenders. Plenty of big names ran deep, including bracelet winner Brian Kim (9th), recent World Series of Poker $1,500 shootout winner Daniel Sepiol (7th), top POY contender David Coleman (6th), 2023 Triton Monte Carlo main event champion Matthias Eibinger (4th), and two-time bracelet winner Artur Martirosian (3rd).

Coleman earned $97,200 and 196 POY points for his 17th final-table showing of 2024. That is the most POY-qualified final tables of any player on the circuit, with Stephen Chidwick and Jeremy Becker tied with 16 each. Coleman has won four POY qualified titles along the way, accruing 5,880 points to this point. As a result, he sits in second place on the POY leaderboard. He currently trails top-ranked Adrian Mateos by 547 points.

2023 Triton London $25,000 pot-limit Omaha event champion Seth Gottlieb finished as the runner-up in this event, earning $380,900. He now has $3,748,799 in career earnings despite only 18 recorded cashes to his name.
