Hector Berry and Mark Checkwicz Latest Bracelet Winners At 2024 World Series of Poker

The 2024 World Series of Poker is about to enter the final third of its schedule, with 65 of the 99 live bracelet events already in the books. There has already been $217.9 million in prize money awarded thanks to nearly 140,000 entries made so far. Below is a look at the two most recent evens to wrap up.

Event 62 – $600 PokerNews Deepstack Championship No-Limit Hold’em

Hector BerryThe $600 PokerNews Deepstack Championship no-limit hold’em event drew 5,110 total entries, with 40 players winning their way in via a leaderboard challenge for the popular daily Deepstack tournaments. The strong turnout resulted in a prize pool of $2,606,100. After four days of play, the UK’s Hector Berry came away with the bracelet and the top prize of $282,876.

This was Berry’s first live win and just his seventh recorded cash. He now has nearly $327,000 in career earnings.

The top 767 finishers cashed in this event, including deep runs from Ray Henson (12th), and World Poker Tour champion Darryll Fish (5th).

Event 65 – $5,000 Seniors High Roller No-Limit Hold’em

The inaugural $5,000 seniors high roller no-limit hold’em event was a smash success, with 811 entries (all at least 50 years of age) posting the healthy buy-in to build a final prize pool of $6,751,800.

Mark Checkwicz will go down in poker history as the first-ever champion of this tournakent. The Springfield, MA resident earned $573,876 and his first bracelet after coming out on top.

This was by far the largest recorded score yet for Checkwicz, easily surpassing the $25,986 he secured for a win in a $400 buy-in event a decade ago at the Foxwoods Resort Casino’s Megastack Challenge.

There was plenty of stiff competition to deal with down the stretch, including four-time bracelet winner Farzad Bonyadi (18th), 2023 WPT World Championship Seniors high roller runner-up Judieth Bielan (10th), Angela Jordison (9th), and WPT champion Michael Vela (3rd).
