At one point down the stretch, it looked like six-time bracelet winner and 2023 Poker Hall of Fame inductee Brian Rast was going to run away with the title in the 2024 World Series of Poker $25,000 pot-limit Omaha high roller. Then, a cooler saw David Eldridge overtake the lead. Rast fought back into the lead briefly, but Eldridge pulled off a few daring bluffs during heads-up play that ultimately helped propel him to victory. He earned $2,246,728 and his second WSOP gold bracelet as the champion.

This payday dwarfed the $41,553 he earned alongside his first bracelet, which came for taking down the 2021 WSOP Online $1,000 no-limit hold’em freezeout in Pennsylvania. Eldridge now has more than $3.9 million in recorded tournament earnings, with more than $2.6 million coming from his 32 cashes in WSOP events.

Eldridge was also awarded 2,520 Card Player Player of the Year points and 800 PokerGO Tour points as the champion of this event. This was his first qualifying score for both points races, but this huge win alone was enough to see him catapulted into 46th place in the POY standings presented by Global Poker and 18th place on the PGT leaderboard.

This high-stakes PLO affair attracted a record 476 entries, up from 445 in 2023. As a result, there was $11,186,000 to award amongst the top 72 finishers. Among the many stars of the game that cashed were three-time bracelet winner Joao Vieira (27th), Michael ‘Texas Mike’ Moncek (25th), Viktor Blom (22nd), two-time bracelet winner Erick Lindgren (21st), two-time bracelet winner Kahle Burns (20th), bracelet winner Alex Livingston (17th), bracelet winner Joni Jouhkimainen (12th), bracelet winner Eelis Parssinen (10th), and bracelet winner Anuj Agarwhal.

Juha HelppiThe fourth and final day began with five remaining and Eldridge in the lead. Two-time bracelet winner Juha Helppi was the first to fall. The Finnish player got all-in with middle set and a gutshot against the nut flush draw and double-gutshot straight draw of Rast. The river saw Rast hit his low straight draw, making the wheel to win the pot. Helppi earned a career-high payday of $524,911 for his fifth-place showing. He now has nearly $8.4 million in recorded tournament earnings.

Yang Wang got all-in with a wrap straight draw facing the top two pair and backdoor flush draws of Eldridge. The turn ended any drama, as Eldridge made jacks full of tens to lock up the hand. Wang was awarded $731,819, bringing his career total earnings to $1.7 million.

Ethan Cahn’s run ended in third place ($1,038,097). He got all-in preflop with ADiamond SuitKSpade SuitQDiamond Suit2Diamond Suit facing the ASpade SuitQClub Suit6Spade Suit5Spade Suit of Rast. The board ran out 9Club Suit8Heart Suit5Heart Suit7Heart Suit4Diamond Suit and Rast made a nine-high staight to send Cahn to the rail with his first seven-figure score.

Heads-up play began with Rast holding more than a 3:1 chip lead over Eldridge. After closing the gap a bit, Eldridge flopped a set of jacks over a set of threes for Rast. All of the chips went in on the flop and Eldridge held from there to move ahead in the chip counts.

Brian RastEldridge got a couple of bluffs through to extend his chip advantage. He then attempted another big bluff, only to have Rast take a stand with two pair to move back in front. Eldridge soon doubled back into the lead when his flopped three pair held against the top pair and nut flush draw of Rast.

The decisive bluff of the match saw Eldridge move all-in with ADiamond Suit10Spade Suit7Diamond Suit on a 9Diamond Suit6Heart Suit2Club Suit4Spade Suit5Diamond Suit board after Rast had made a hefty value bet on the river with his six-high straight (KClub Suit10Club Suit6Spade Suit3Spade Suit).

Rast was left with 16 big blinds after making that laydown. He stack dwindled even further when he ran into quad kings for Eldridge. He was soon all-in with AHeart Suit10Spade Suit8Spade Suit6Club Suit facing the AClub SuitQDiamond Suit9Club Suit7Diamond Suit of Aldridge. The board came down KClub Suit7Club Suit2Diamond SuitKDiamond Suit7Spade Suit and Aldridge made trip sevens to win the pot and the title.

Rast was awarded $1,497,824 as the runner-up. This was his seventh seven-figure tournament score. It grew his career earnings to $26.7 million. He also earned 2,100 POY points, enough to see him climb to 68th place in the overall standings.
