Professional football handicapping contests have grown in popularity over the last decade and a new docuseries hopes to capture some of the excitement involved in these high-stakes sports betting affairs.

VSiN recently announced that the docuseries Circa Survivor: The Quest for $9.2 Million will debut on the sports betting network on Aug. 19. The series follows contestants as they navigate through the 2023 Circa Survivor, the largest sports contest in the world with a prize of $9.2 million.

The show captures the excitement and drama, as well as many of the characters involved, to see who will win a life-changing, winner-take-all purse.

“VSiN has covered Circa’s contests since their launch, so we’re thrilled to bring viewers behind the scenes to watch the drama unfold,” VSiN founder Bill Adee said. “This docuseries marks the first time VSiN will air this type of programming, and we’re excited to step outside the studio to bring this must-see experience to sports betting enthusiasts and, frankly, anyone who likes a good cliffhanger. The series includes plenty of advice from VSiN personalities along the way, which is good because you may find yourself tempted to give the contest a try yourself.”

Inside The World Of Sports Betting Contests

Participants pick one team to win each week of the season, but can only select each team once. Contestants picking winning teams survive to the next week. Those with losing picks are eliminated.

The series footage was edited down to five 30-minute episodes following contestants from sign-up through all 20 weeks of the season. Filmmakers introduce viewers to the characters who bring contest excitement to life, sports betting experts providing analysis and sharing weekly developments, and the Circa team behind the season-long adventure.

“As a TV producer, creating a series on the Circa Survivor contest was a remarkable journey,” Longball Productions partner Stephan Shelanski said. “We get to know so many contestants so well as we track them through the highs and lows navigating this incredible contest in pursuit of life-changing money. The series is a blend of great stories, wonderful characters and high drama, because only four of the more than nine thousand contestants make it through to the end.”

Poker World Connections

Last year’s tournament included high-stakes poker pro Sean Perry rejecting a deal with 12 other players remaining later in the season. Each player would have scored $400,000 and played for the remaining $4 million. He was eliminated from the contest the following week.

In 2021, two other poker players also came through with a top finish in a Circa contest. David “ODB” Baker and Mark Gregorich won the Westgate Las Vegas SuperContest for $435,623 and tied for second in Circa Sports Million II, where players pick five games each week against the spread, for $200,000.

The first episode of Circa Survivor: The Quest for $9.2 Million begins airing on VSiN, the VSiN YouTube channel, VSiN.com, and on Twitter/X @VSiNLive on Monday. Subsequent episodes begin airing on Aug. 26.
