The upsets in the NFL keep coming and more competitors in the Circa Survivor contest keep falling. The Las Vegas-based handicapping tournament, known as the biggest sports betting pool in the world, began the season with 14,266 entries. But after just three weeks, only 642 remain.

After back-to-back weeks of record eliminations, week 3 of the NFL season also saw plenty of competitors eliminated, with the largest percentage knocked out on Sunday, including three of the top four picks through Sunday night. That was then followed by the top pick for the week, Cincinnati, also losing on Monday night after the Washington Commanders topped the Bengals 38-33.

Underdogs Rise Up

A total of 980 competitors picked the Bengals, meaning the contest has lost 96% of the field through the first three weeks. Only 3,877 entries remained alive when the week began.

Week 3 has historically been challenging for contestants. In 2023, the contest had 5,924 entries going in but 3,445 entries (58.2% of the field) were eliminated. By contrast, last year’s contest saw 9,267 entries overall and didn’t drop below 1,700 entries until Week 7.

The annual Circa Survivor features a $1,000 entry fee and has competitors picking one winner each week throughout the season to keep advancing. The ultimate winner collects the entire prize pool, which now stands at more than $14 million, although last year’s finale ended in a deal with each of the four remaining players pocketing $2.3 million each.

In related news, VSiN recently debuted the docuseries Circa Survivor: The Quest for $9.2 Million, documenting last season’s contest.
