Tournament poker players don't have long to cool their spurs before returning to the poker trail again. In only 10 days, they'll start the new year by heading to the Caribbean to play some major poker.

The year starts with the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure (PCA), which, for the first time, is a European Poker Tour event. The former World Poker Tour event switched sides because PokerStars is the chief sponsor of the EPT.

This is the sixth event out of the 11 scheduled for the fourth season of the EPT. It takes place at the Atlantis Resort and Casino in the Bahamas. The buy-in is $8,000.

There are five events (including the PCA) before the EPT holds its Grand Final at Monte Carlo Bay Hotel and Resort in Monte Carlo. This $15,000 event (using today's exchange rates) is becoming one of the player's favorite stops on the trail. American Gavin Griffin won last year.

The rest of the EPT season four schedule follows:

  • PCA, $8,000, Atlantic Resort, Bahamas, Jan. 5-10
  • EPT German Open, $11,000*, Casino Hohensyburg, Dortmund, Jan. 29 to Feb. 2
  • EPT Scandinavian Open, $9,700*, Casino Copenhagen, Feb. 19-23
  • EPT Polish Open, $8,400*, Hyatt Regency, Warsaw, March 11-15
  • EPT San Remo, $7,200*, Casino Sanremo, San Remo, Italy, April 1-5
  • EPT Grand Final, $15,000*, Monte Carlo Bay Hotel, April 12-17

The * denotes approximate U.S. dollar value according to today's exchange rates.

Players can qualify for these events through PokerStars. Click here to take advantage of a deposit bonus through PokerStars.

Back in the states the WPT is in the middle of its sixth season. There are seven events between now and the $25,000 WPT World Championship that takes place at the Bellagio April 19-26.

The WPT already filmed 12 events, including two specials (a third one is schedule for March), and its sixth season will be the first to be aired on Monday nights on GSN. It will be shown after High Stakes Poker, but dates when the new season starts airing have not been announced.

In season five, 18 events were filmed for broadcast. The 21 events of season six is the most ever by the WPT. The following are the remaining events that take place the first part of 2008 (the dates of the main event are listed):

  • World Poker Open, $10,000, Gold Strike Casino, Tunica, Miss., Jan. 20-23
  • Borgata Poker Classic, $10,000, Borgata Casino, Jan. 27-31
  • L.A. Poker Classic, $10,000, Commerce Casino, Feb. 23-28
  • Bay 101 Shooting Star, $10,000, Bay 101 Casino, San Jose, Calif., March 10-14
  • World Poker Challenge, $7,500, Grand Sierra Resort, Reno, March 25-28
  • Foxwoods Poker Classic, $10,000, Foxwoods Casino, Mashantucket, Conn., April 4-9
