Today, the World Poker Tour announced the formation of the WPT Ladies league (WPTL). The WPTL will feature an annual slate of tournaments with buy-ins ranging from $300 to $1,500 to give women of all skill levels a chance to compete on the WPT stage.

The first season of the WPTL tour kicks off Jan. 20 at the Borgata in Atlantic City. Additional stops are scheduled at Foxwoods in Mashantucket, Connecticut, Commerce Casino in Los Angeles, and Bay 101 in San Jose, California.  The tour will conclude with a $1,500 championship tournament at Bellagio in Las Vegas, which also will host a player party in conjunction with the event.

“Women are a rising force in poker,” said Robyn Moder, executive vice president of WPT Studios. “By bringing a WPT Ladies league and tour stops to top gaming destinations across the U.S., we hope to support and perpetuate the evolution of the sport and recognition of the women who play.”

In the name of sisterhood, 15 percent of each buy-in of the $1,500 championship will go to the Susan G. Komen Foundation for the Cure, an organization dedicated to fight breast cancer.

The 2008 schedule follows:

  • Jan. 20 — Borgata — $300
  • Feb. 2 — Commerce Casino — $970
  • March 16 — Bay 101 — $300
  • March 29 — Foxwoods — $530
