Strip Poker: NSPCA Opens New Wing Thanks to HarmanRibbon-Cutting Ceremony and Press Conference Promotes Second-Annual Jennifer Harman Charity Poker Tournament |

In this "Strip Poker" series, Card Player covers the Las Vegas poker scene — on The Strip and around the city.
The tireless charitable efforts made by high-stakes pro Jennifer Harman materialized yesterday at the Nevada Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (NSPCA) in a ribbon-cutting ceremony and press conference that both promoted her Second-Annual Jennifer Harman Charity Poker Tournament and celebrated the opening of two new wings made possible by the first-annual event.
Last year, the charity tournament was successful in raising $130,000 for the NSPCA.
“It is amazing what even $1,000 donated can do here, let alone $130,000,” said Doug Duke, executive director of the NSPCA. “It was amazing, and we are so grateful. By adding the new section, it is possible we are going to save about 1,000 animals.”
Showing support were Harman’s friends, including Doyle Brunson, Chau Giang, Hoyt Corkins, Chip and Karina Jett, and Tournament Director Matt Savage. Also attending was Kathy Raymond, the director of poker operations at the Venetian Resort Hotel and Casino, which is the venue that will host the second-annual event.
This year’s tournament is sponsored in part by Card Player and will take place April 18. With confirmed poker pros like Phil Ivey, Johnny Chan, Phil Hellmuth, and Erick Lindgren, along with celebrities including NFL quarterback Shaun King and snowboarders Jeff Brushie, Keir Dillon, and Ross Powers, a red-carpet reception will begin at 2 p.m., just before the start of the event at 3 p.m.
The recommended donation (buy-in) is $300, and optional re-donations (rebuys) of $200 will be available throughout the first three levels of play. The first-place finisher will receive a $10,000 seat into the World Series of Poker main event, and 100 percent of the prize pool will go to the NSPCA. The event is expected to sell out, but preregistration is available by clicking here.
The NSPCA is a non-profit organization and a no-kill animal sanctuary. For more information, or to make a direct donation, click here.
