WinStar Casinos in southern Oklahoma are breaking new ground with a regional poker series by creating a TV show that will feature local players who win their way into its $2,000 WinStar World Championship Series of Poker (WWCSP), which will also be filmed. The show, called “The River,” will be aired on ABC affiliates in Oklahoma and the Dallas, Tex., area starting in June. The championship, which takes place in August, has a guaranteed $3 million prize pool.

Producers are filming several of the monthly super satellites that are scheduled to be held at WinStar’s casino in Thackerville, which is one mile north of the Texas border in Oklahoma. The first super satellite was held in March, and one will be held every month until the main event. The supers cost $440 and the top players win both an entry into the WWCPS and cash prizes, according to place of finish.

Super satellites are scheduled to be held on May 25, June 8, June 29, July 13, July 27, Aug. 3 and Aug. 10. The show is produced by a division of the Chickasaw Nation, which owns WinStar. They have an in-house television production facility located right at the casino. Greg Raymer and Annie Duke will appear as hosts on the show.

Qualifiers for the Super Satellites are currently being held and cost $55. For more information about the series, call 1-800-622-6317. The main event will be limited to 1,500 players and will run from Aug. 17-21.
