The final table of the PokerStars.com European Poker Tour Grand Final took place yesterday and played into the eary parts of today (over 12 hours) in Monte Carlo. Here is a selection of the most important hands from that final table pulled from Card Player's live updates from the event. The eventual champion, Glen Chorny, scored a huge payday (the largest ever in Europe) worth $3,193,822 at what has become one of the poker year's marquee events:

Valeriy Ilikyan raises preflop and Antonio Esfandiari reraises almost all in. Esfandiari then gets up and begins shaking everyone's hand and saying, "Goodbye." It folds to Ilikyan, who begins tanking. Esfandiari turns to him and says, "I might fold for the rest." Ilikyan eventually folds, and Esfandiari takes down the first pot at the final table.
Hand 8: Luca Pagano Doubles Up
Luca Pagano raises to 75,000 preflop and Issac Baron reraises to 240,000. Pagano makes the call and the flop rolls out J 4 3. Baron moves all in and Pagano makes the call quickly. They then turn up their hands:
Turn and River: Q 3
Pagano doubles up on the hand and survives. he now has 1,152,000. Baron is down to 2,125,000.
Hand 13: Antonio Esfandiari Eliminated 8th ($265,625)
Pagano raises to 80,000 on the button, and Esfandiari pushes all in over the top for 562,000. Pagano announces that he calls and shows A J. Esfandiari flips up a dominated A 8. The flop comes K Q 10, giving Pagano the absolute nuts with the Broadway straight. Esfandiari can pick up a jack to chop the pot. The turn is the 5 and the river the 3, and Esfandiari is eliminated in eighth place ($265,625).
Hand 27: Maxime Villemure Doubles Up
Ilikyan raises to 87,000 and Villemure reraises all in for 730,000. Ilikyan calls and they open up their hands:
Board: A 10 6 A 2
Villemure doubles up on the hand to survive and he now has 1,518,000. Ilikyan is down to 794,000.
Hand 39: Valeriy Ilikyan Eliminated in
Ilikyan moves all in and Martin calls him down. They then turn up their hands:
Board: 8 7 6 A 2
Ilikyan is eliminated on the hand in 7th place, and he will take home $400,018 in prize money. Martin now has 1,751,000.
Hand 73: Luca Pagano
Pagano raises to 110,000 preflop, and Chorny calls. Baron also calls in the small blind, and the flop comes 9 4 2. Baron checks, Pagano bets 210,000, Chorny calls, and Baron folds. The turn is the 4, and Pagano fires again, this time for 500,000. Chorny thinks for some time and stares Pagano down before calling. The Q hits the river, and Pagano bets 400,000. Chorny thinks before finally calling, showing pocket sixes. Pagano flips up K Q for a rivered queen for a better two pair. The hand puts Pagano into the chip lead with 3.297 million.
Pagano raises on the button to 110,000, and Villemure reraises from the small blind, folding Chorny in the big blind. Pagano pushes all in, and Villemure calls, after some thought, showing A K. Pagano tables J J for the lead. The board runs out
Hand 113: Luca Pagano Eliminated in
Kalo raises to 125,000 and Pagano thinks for a moment before shoving all in. His opponent makes the call and they then open up their hands:
Board: K 7 7 10 J
Kalo wins the hand and Pagano is eliminated in 6th place. He will take home $532,831 for his record tenth EPT cash.
Hand 121: Michael Martin Eliminated 5th ($665,643)
Chorny raises to 125,000 and Martin calls. The board comes 10 7 6. Chorny bets 225,000, and Martin raises to 675,000. Chorny pushes all in, having Martin covered, and Martin calls all in and shows Q 10. Chorny flips up J J for the lead. The turn is the A and the river the 2. Martin is eliminated in fifth place ($665,643).
Chorny raises preflop and is called by Kalo. The flop comes A 8 4, and Kalo checks. Chorny bets 125,000, and Kalo check-raises to 500,000. Chorny pushes all in, and Kalo calls all in instantly, showing A Q. Chorny holds A 3. Both have to pair, Kalo has a better kicker, but Chorny has a flush draw. The turn is the K and the river the J, and Kalo doubles through Chorny to become the chip leader, while Chorny is now the short stack.
Chorny limps in the small blind, and Baron raises 220,000. Chorny calls, and the flop comes 7 6 2. Chorny comes out with a 350,000 bet, and Baron thinks for some time. Chorny calls the clock, and Baron eventually goes all in. Chorny quickly calls and tables pocket aces. Baron shows A Q. The turn is the 9, giving Baron some outs with a spade. The river is the K, sealing Baron's fate and putting him out in fourth place ($931,268).
On the second hand of heads-up action, Denes Kalo pushes all in from the button and Glen Chorny calls, having him covered. Chorny turns over A 5, and Kalo shows K Q. The flop came A Q 6, improving both players, but putting Chorny further in the lead with top pair. The turn was the 6, which reduces the outs Kalo has to survive. The river brings the 10, and Chorny is the winner of the 2008 PokerStars.com European Poker Tour Grand Final. Chorny has earned the EPT Grand Final trophy and the $3,193,822 first-place prize.
Denes Kalo receives $1,864,116 for his second-place finish tonight.
