Did you have a miserable year in terms of poker, seeing all of your premiere hands waste away on the river? Maybe you had an amazing 2008, raking in pots wherever you went.
Well, either way, you can either end your 2008 on a grand note or start your 2009 in spectacular fashion with two marquee events on Dec. 31 and Jan. 1 at the Bellagio poker room.
The Las Vegas casino will host two $540 buy-in tournaments with its normal daily tournament structure (40 minute blinds). But instead of starting with 6,000 in chips, each player will begin with a stack of 15,000.
“A lot of players are very excited for the 15,000 in chips,” said Rob Moore, Bellagio’s poker tournaments supervisor.
Moore said that he expects about 100 players to show up for the New Year’s Day tournament, which begins at 2 p.m. As far as the New Year’s Eve tournament, which starts at 5 p.m., he says that tournament is a little harder to estimate since many players might have already made other plans for the evening.
This is the first year Bellagio is hosting these kinds of tournaments.
Single table satellites will begin at 9 a.m. each day. After 10 players pony up $130 to enter, the final two competitors will earn a $540 seat, as well as $30 in cash.
