2008 Master Classics of Poker Begins Today

Michael Tureniec and Surinder Sunar Have Captured Preliminary Event Titles in Amsterdam

Noah BoekenFresh on the heels of the crowning of a new world champion from Europe comes one of the continent's most prestigious poker tournaments of the year, the Master Classics of Poker in the Netherlands. Today marks the first day of the Lido Poker €6,000 no-limit hold’em main event. The tournament began at 3 p.m. CET today, and the event is capped at 300 entrants. Slated to appear in the event are one of Holland’s best-known players, Noah Boeken, as well as Michael Tureniec (€500 limit hold’em), and Surinder Sunar (€1,000 pot-limit Omaha) who both won preliminary events.

This will be the 17th edition of one of the longest-running high-stakes poker tournaments in Europe, and a champion should be crowned in the afternoon on Friday, Pacific time. Here is a look at last year’s results for the championship event:
