Isabelle Mercier got off to a great start in DeauvilleThe PokerStars.com European Poker Tour returned to Casino Barriere in Deauville, France for the first time in three years yesterday attracting a field of 302 players on day 1A of the €5,000 buy in event.

Amid the crowd were many  recognisable faces including Bertrand “ElkY” Grospellier, Joao Barbosa, Ludovic Lacay, Arnaud Mattern, Vicky Coren, Tony Cascarino, Michael Greco, Sebastian Ruthenberg, Juha Helppi, Alex Kravchenko, Gino Alacqua, Vanessa Rousso, Carter Gill, Isabelle Mercier, Pascal Perrault, Jonas Klausen, and Brian Jensen.

Lacay and Mercier were among the early double ups.

Jonas Klausen, sitting next to Sebastian Ruthenberg, made for some dynamic tension at a table which also consisted of Julien Lang Van and Jorg Wehle who crippled Ruthenberg crippled early in play.

German Benny Spindler who recently came third in the PCA in the Caribbean was eliminated early in the day running A-K into A-A as was Michael Greco, the former actor from England, and serial EPT player Arnaud Mattern from France. Alex Kravchenko also took an early bath.

Deeper into play the field lost former international soccer star Tony Cascarino and Ruthenberg who couldn’t keep his short stack in the running any longer.

ElkY, fresh from his high rollers victory at the PCA, made up for the earlier body blows he received by getting back to his starting stack but was sucker punched with  A-K versus A-Q and busted soon after.

Juha Helppi busted French veteran Robert Cohen while Vicky Coren, in her little French beret, hung on for her tournament life during the late part of the session but then busted right at the end of the day.
