Gualter SallesFabian Ortiz made history when he won the $2,500 no-limit hold'em main event at the Latin American Poker Tour stop in Vina del Mar, Chile, on Thursday. He became the first Latin American player to win an LAPT title. He took home $141,426 in prize money for topping a field of 215 players.

Ortiz emerged from a field where the majority of the players were Latin American, proving that the home-grown market is growing the tour in its second season. Ortiz beat out many of his fellow local players, and some big names, as well. Ortiz lasted longer than Team PokerStars Pro members Humberto Brenes and Andre Akkari, as well as Brazilian stock car driver Gualter Salles.

The next stop on the LAPT season two schedule will take place in Punta del Este, Uruguay, on Mar. 18-20.
