Before his impressive second-place finish at the Aussie Millions main event in 2007, Jimmy “gobboboy” Fricke was known in some circles in the online poker community but was hardly a big-name pro. But his second-place finish at a final table that included Gus Hansen, Andrew Black, and Kristy Gazes quickly catapulted him into the realm of poker elite.
This week, he talks about the tournament that he is most known for with Adam Schoenfeld and Diego Cordovez on this week’s episode of the The Scoop on Card Player TV (sponsored by Full Tilt). He discusses his play, some the verbal abuse he had to take from the rail, and his regrets.
Fricke raised a lot of eyebrows when he was interviewed during that Aussie Millions tournament, basically saying he wasn’t surprised that he was doing well since live players don’t really compare to online players in terms of skill.
“I regret saying some of the things I said, but I still believe what I said,” Fricke said on The Scoop.
Fricke talks about how he had to make an adjustment from being a relatively anonymous online poker player to a live player who had to deal with the media, but he seems to have made that adjustment just fine.
Fricke has earned a number of live cashes since his big finish, and says that his game has evolved since 2007.
Part 2 of the interview will debut next Friday.
