The World Poker Tour Venice saw a turn out of 397, creating a prize pool of €1,521,260. Unlike many major tournaments of late, familiar faces could be found getting down to the business end of the prize pool, but it was Sven Ragnar Åström who topped the lot for a payday of €387,960.

Surinder Sunar was one of the familiars in the final ten — he made eighth place for €31,940, and was followed out by the well-known and highly respected Italian, Dario Minieri, who took €48,680 for seventh.

The official final table chip counts were —

Sven Ragnar Åström — 2,161,000

Martin Jacobson — 1,049,000

Michael McDonald — 1,022,000

vincent582 — 764,000

Mario Adinolfi — 487,000

Michele Slama — 459,000

The first hand of the final table saw an all-in from Mario Adinolfi, which was called by Martin Jacobson. Adinolfi had pocket queens but Jacobson had pocket kings, and with no lady in sight on the board, Adinolfi left in sixth for €66,940.

Italian player Michele Slama followed him out with €86,720 for fifth place. He was also sent to the rail by Jacobson, who then went on to take out young gun Michael McDonald in fourth. McDonald received a hefty sum of €109,540 for his efforts. “vincent582” was the next victim of the final table. He hit the rail in third place, receiving €159,740 on his way.

The chip counts going into heads-up play were:

Martin Jacobson — 3,333,000

Sven Ragnar Åström — 2,609,000

After a battle of Swedish wills, Åström finally got the better of his opponent when on a board of JHeart Suit 7Club Suit 7Diamond Suit AHeart Suit 4Heart Suit, he checked and Jacobson bet. Åström then moved all in and Jacobson snap-called with KHeart Suit 6Heart Suit for the nut flush, but Åström had rivered a house with his pocket fours. He walked away with €387,960, a WPT bracelet, and a seat in the WPT World Championships. Jacobson received €238,840 for his runner-up finish.
