Just to make things a little interesting, PaddyPower.com has launched a host of betting markets for the World Series of Poker main event. These markets include “To Make Final Table”, “Number of Entrants”, “Top Irish Player”, and “Age of Winner”.
Last year’s champion Peter Eastgate can be found in the “To Make Final Table” market at 66/1, with others such as Chris Ferguson, Brian Townsend, and Barry Greenstein available at 80/1. Selected odds in the “Outright Winner” category include Daniel Negreanu, Gus Hansen, and Patrik Antonius at 66/1, and Jennifer Tilly at 175/1.
But what about throwing some Irish players into the mix. With Jude Ainsworth proving to be in good form recently, and currently coming second on Card Player’s Player of the Year rankings, a punt on him at 25/1 for “Top Irish Player” might be of interest. Other choices include Rory Rees Brennan and Marty Smyth at 20/1, and Padraig Parkinson at 28/1.
The size of this year’s most anticipated event is also up for debate in the “Number of Entrants” market. Will the economy take affect resulting in numbers dropping to between 4,500 and 4,999? Odds on this are 8/1. Or will the numbers reflect the success of other recent events, if so there is a healther 6,500-6,999 available at 5/1, amongst many others.
