According to eGaming Review, a market research company which specialises in the poker industry, Poker Players Research, has reported that female players have become an increasingly important target area in the poker market and are set to grow to a third of real money poker players by 2011.
Basing his findings on a survey of 13,000 regular poker players worldwide, spokesperson for the company, Glen Flackett said that female participation and activity were now one of the main areas of enquiry.
Evidence of this is clear with female-only sites such as Maria Poker being launched recently, and with PokerStars expected to specifically target female players in the near future.
Ladbrokes also recently had a Ladybrokes Poker event held in celebration of Royal Ascot’s Ladies Day. The freeroll saw 420 female players take part and the first place prize of a trip to Killarney in Ireland to play in the Irish Festival was won by “DEBZ_O4”.
The research shows that, on average, women play lower stakes than men and for a shorter amount of time, but their greater loyalty and lifetime value make them a good investment in the long run.
