We are now through two events at the World Championship of Online Poker (WCOOP), but neither have affected the Card Player Online Player of the Year race.
The big story in the OPOY race is Steve “gboro780” Gross (pictured right), who has now retaken the lead with his sixth-place finish in last week’s PokerStars Sunday Million. Gross pocketed an additional $53,958 for his final-table finish, bringing his year-to-date totals to nearly seven figures with $961,619.
Gross’ lead ballooned to more than 200 points, but Shaun “TedsFishFry” Deeb came back strong and cut the lead in half with a fourth-place finish in the $100 rebuy on Full Tilt. This came nearly a week after Deeb claimed his first live victory, a high-roller event at the EPT Kiev series that boasted field of just three people.
The rest of the leader board remained pretty quiet, except for Thayer “THAY3R” Rasmussen, who moved back into the top 10 and currently sits in seventh place. Rasmussen finish sixth in the PokerStars Sunday 500 for $20,323 and picked up a crucial 360 points in the process.
Also new to the top 10 is Joe “ender555” Ebanks (pictured left). The 10th-place resident finished third in the Sunday 500 and then took down a $100 rebuy tournament a week later to pick up an impressive $125,000 in combined earnings, along with 1,200 points.
The rest of the top 10 is rounded out by Chris “Moorman1” Moorman (Third), David “SirSands” Sands (Fourth), Nick “GripDsNutz” Grippo (Fifth), Nick “FU_15” Maimone (Sixth), Hunter “HEMIpowerSWT” Frey (Eighth) and Jonathan “shipitobv” Delong (Ninth).
