Online Poker -- OPOY Weekly Recap -- Sep. 18, 2009David Sands Leads After Roller-Coaster Week |
|
The Card Player Online Player of the Year race had one hell of a week, complete with a two lead changes and a complete shuffle of the top 10.
Though he started the week in fourth place, Chris “Moorman1” Moorman jumped into the top spot when he won the daily $100 rebuy on PokerStars. He added more crucial points later in the week when he bubbled the final table of event No. 37 at the World Championship of Online Poker (WCOOP). Moorman didn’t hang on to the lead long though, finishing the week in third place overall.
He was passed by David “Sir Sands” Sands, who was in second place to start the week. Sands stayed hot, winning the Full Tilt $1K Monday for nearly $90,000. Sands kept the lead throughout the week, but was challenged heavily by current second-place resident Steve “gboro” Gross. (pictured above left)
Gross has been in the OPOY discussion since the start of the year and, incredibly, always manages a comeback win to keep himself in the top five. This week, Gross won the $100,000 guarantee tournament on Full Tilt for $34,000. The score was enough to put him just 20 points from the overall lead.
Despite the insanity happening at the top of the leader board, the biggest movement of the week belonged to Jeremiah “Believer82” Vinsant (pictured right), who jumped from 10th to fifth place. After final-tabling the $1K Monday, Vinsant went on to finish third in WCOOP event No. 33, for $115,000. After starting the month of August nowhere near the top 10, Vinsant is now just 820 points away from the lead.
The rest of the top 10 is rounded out by Shaun “TedsFishFry” Deeb (fourth), Jonathan “shipitobv” Delong (sixth), Joseph “hoodini10” Udine (seventh), Nicholas “GripDsNutz” Grippo (eighth), Nick “FU_15” Maimone (ninth) and Aditya “Intervention” Agarwal (10th).
