Richard AshbyThe Boylepoker.com International Poker Open 2009 begins today with day 1A at the Regency Hotel in Dublin. Irishman Ruairi Coy was last year’s champion. He took home €37,530 from a total prize pool of €205,000.

The $250 buy-in event is totally sold out with more than 1,400 players expected to attend over the two starting days. This will create an anticipated prizepool of $350,000, and will also break the record for the largest poker tournament (in terms of number of entries) ever held outside of America.

Among those signed up for the first starting day are Richard Ashby, [pictured above right], Neil Channing, Ken Docherty, Fintan Gavin, Peter Murphy, Paul Parker, and Padraig Parkinson.

Players will sit down today at 1 p.m. (local time) with 8,000 starting chips, or if they collected 500 VIP points by playing on Boylepoker.com in August and September then their stack will be bumped up to 10,000.

Blinds will begin at 25/50 and will be 40 minutes apart. They will continue today until level 17 is reached, meaning the blinds will be 3,000-6,000 with a 300 ante at the end of play.

There will be a host of side events with low buy-ins on offer over the weekend including hold’em, pot-limit Omaha, and round-of-each tournaments. The Poker Show Live will be there also to bring all the news, views, and gossip from the IPO for next week’s shows.

Those who are not attending can find coverage and final table streaming at Boylepokerblog.com.
