Tom DwanFor the past few weeks, the high-stakes online cash games have been running at a rapid clip, and many railbirds are finding the swings from player to player to be unprecedented.

The culprit creating the most hype and doing the vast majority of the damage is unknown Swedish sensation “Isildur1,” who some sites are saying is up about $6 million in the last three weeks alone. That number is staggering, even with all of the rushes in recent memory, but it becomes an even more impressive feat when you consider that he started his run with a $1 million loss.

Unwilling to divulge his true identity, many have speculated as to the reasons why Isildur1 has shunned the spotlight in favor of anonymity. The consensus among the railbirds is that the big winner wants to avoid any tax implications that come with playing on the various sites.

Isildur1 has taken on the game’s best players and has come out ahead on nearly every occasion, multi-tabling against the likes of Phil “OMGClayAiken” Galfond, Patrik Antonius, Phil Ivey and most notably Tom “durrrr” Dwan.

Dwan is now the proud owner of Full Tilt red-pro status, but the site has not been kind to the Full Tilt pro in his last dozen sessions or so. Dwan and Isildur1 recently played one of the biggest pots in online history. After a series of preflop raises, all of the money went in, and Dwan’s A-K suited went down to Isildur1’s pocket aces. The nearly $700,000 pot was shipped to the Swede, but the carnage didn’t end there.

Isildur1 continued to dominate, playing Dwan in both hold’em and pot-limit Omaha with stakes ranging from $200-$400 to $500-$1,000. In fact, Dwan is reported to have lost more than $3.1 million to the enigmatic player.

Phil GalfondA hot streak is one thing, but Isildur1 seems to be backing it up with skill and is generally respected by his opponents. Galfond recently commented on his popular blog that he believes momentum has played a big part in the epic match.

“Not many people can handle a style like Tom’s at nosebleeds with stacks that deep for very long,” he said. “You have to remain on your A-game constantly or risk getting completely picked apart. Isildur has shown that he can stay on his A-game for many hours, across six tables, without much sleep. Something I don’t think I could do.”

Dwan recently started a blog on his website for Full Tilt Poker, but he has yet to address the match, promising to update his readers next month.
