Priyan de Mel Wins His Second GUKPT Title

Grosvenor UK Poker Tour Bolton Attracts 146 Players to Main Event as Blackpool Champion Romps to Victory

Priyan de Mel wins GUKPT Bolton main event making him a double GUKPT championPriyan de Mel has won his second Grosvenor UK Poker Tour title topping the field of 146 players in the £1,000 main event to take home the top prize of £44,600.

At the end of 2009 de Mel won the GUKPT Blackpool title and is just the third player to win two GUKPT main events.

De Mel was a significant chip leader with four players left at yesterday’s final table but when he got heads up with Andrew Purser, who was making his first ever final table, there was just 50,000 chips separating the 2.2 million in play.

After an hour of heads up play Purser moved all in with K-T and was looked up by de Mel with A-4. A four fell on the board and de Mel took down the first GUKPT main event of 2010.

De Mel said of his victory, “I’m really happy to have done back-to-back titles,but three titles is a good target to aim for. Most of my friends are in Australia now so I didn’t have many people here supporting me, but I guess them being away made it easier for me to win this one.”

The next major GUKPT main event takes place at the Grosvenor Casino, Walsall from Feb. 25 to 28.
