Don’t look now, but reigning Online Player of the Year winner Steve “gboro780” Gross (pictured right) is back in the top 10. After finishing second in 2008 and winning it all in 2009, Gross vowed to concentrate on live tournaments in the new year and perhaps take a small step back from online tournaments.
At the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure, Gross came through with a win in event No. 35 for $135,970, fulfilling at least part of his plan. Of course, that hasn’t stopped him from winning online and so far this year; he has racked up an impressive $182,468 in OPOY-qualifying cashes.
He started it off in late January with a win in the Nightly Hundred Grand. Five cashes later, he took down a $100 rebuy on PokerStars for $79,586. Three days later, he won the $75,000 guarantee on Full Tilt for another $40,854. All of this success has him sitting in eighth place overall.
Gross has been impressive, but not as impressive as current leader Casey “bigdogpckt5s” Jarzabek, who jumped all the way from 10th place to the top spot in the rankings. Jarzabek had four OPOY cashes this week, including a third-place showing in the Sunday 500 followed by a win in the $100 rebuy.
The other big mover was Ben “benba” Lamb (pictured left), who jumped five spots to fourth with a third-place showing at the Absolute Poker $150,000 Guarantee. He has now earned over $200,000 on the year.
The rest of the top 10 is rounded out by Brent “greener_tree” Belser (second), losebigpots (third), Ronald “ronaldgrauer” Grauer (fifth), Kevin “ImaLuckSac” MacPhee (sixth), Will “imahustla1” Givens (seventh), Aditya “Intervention” Agarwal (ninth) and Dave “doubledave22” D’Alesandro (10th). Players who fell from the top 10 this week include antesvante and Lauren “SUPERMODL” Kling.
