Last week, we were somewhat surprised to see reigning Online Player of the Year winner Steve “gboro780” Gross (pictured right) back in the top 10 so early in the year. This week, he had the online poker community shaking their heads even more by jumping into first place.
Gross had a monster week, taking third in the Sunday $200 rebuy and then following that up with another third in FTOPS XV event No. 12 for $155,641. He now has earned $363,308 in OPOY-qualifying tournaments this year, excluding his six-figure win in the Bahamas.
His only real threat at the moment is second-place resident Casey “bigdogpckt5s” Jarzabek, who did everything in his power to keep up with the New Jersey pro. Jarzabek sits only 78 points behind, thanks to final-table appearances in the PokerStars Sunday Second Chance and FTOPS XV event No. 14.
Sitting about 1,000 points behind those two is Brent “greener_tree” Belser, whose third-place finish in the $75,000 guarantee highlighted a four-cash week.
Dan “Wretchy” Martin (pictured left) jumped all the way to sixth place in the rankings after he final-tabled both the PokerStars Super Tuesday and FTOPS XV_ event No. 15. Martin has 12 OPOY-qualifying cashes this year and has already earned $194,831.
The other two new faces to the top 10 are Mike “CuteIsWhatIAim4” Telker (ninth) and Dylan “PokerDevL” Hortin (10th). The rest of the top 10 is rounded out by “losebigpots” (fourth), Ben “benba” Lamb (fifth), Ronald “ronaldgrauer” Grauer (seventh) and Kevin “ImaLuckSac” MacPhee (eighth).
Players who fell out of the top 10 this week included Will “imahustla1” Givens, Aditya “Intervention” Agarwal and Dave “doubledave22” D’Alesandro, who was our guest this week on Card Player TV’s Online Zone.
