The UK Gambling Commission has cautioned three men under the Gambling Act 2005 for running a pub poker game in Runcorn, Cheshire.
It is the first time the Commission has taken such action. The investigation was centered on the Cherry Tree pub in conjunction with Cheshire Police and found that a poker game was being held in a function room at the pub for stakes higher than the £5 buy in allowed under the Act.
The three men, aged 35, 50, and 56, were cautioned for providing illegal poker.
The Commission’s Regional Compliance Manager for the North West, Alan Green said, “This investigation is a good example of joint partnership working in keeping gambling fair and safe for people in Cheshire.
“The case serves as a reminder to those responsible for managing pubs of their responsibility to monitor gaming on their premises.”
