Both PokerStars and Full Tilt have made some recent additions to their international rosters, with PokerStars adding four Candian pros and Full Tilt adding two Australian pros to their stables.
PokerStars welcomed Greg DeBora, Patrick Pezzin, Marcello Del Grosso, and Anh Van Nguyen to its Team PokerStars.net Pro Canada Team. All four players competed in the recent North American Poker Tour event at Mohegan Sun.
Debora has over $350,000 in career earnings, including a seventh place finish in the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure in 2005 and a 109th place finish at the WSOP main event in 2008. The Toronto native has been playing since the age of 19.
Pezzin, a mixed games player originally from Toronto as well, has made approximately $700,000 in live tournament earnings. He has made three WSOP final tables, including a second place finish in the 2009 $10,000 limit hold’em world championship.
Del Grosso is a former construction worker from Ontario who is going into his fifth year as a poker professional. He has almost $400,000 in tournament winnings, bolstered by two deep WSOP main-event runs in 2005 and 2006.
Nguyen is a former dealer who has impressed many as a player, scoring a side event win at Bellagio’s Five Diamond in 2007 and a sixth place finish in the 2004 WCOOP main event. He has nearly $700,000 in tournament winnings, having also made deep runs in the WSOP main event and last year’s SCOOP main event.
The four players will join Daniel Negreanu and Darus Suharto on the Pro Canada Team for PokerStars.
While PokerStars selected mostly proven live players from Canada, Full Tilt went with a somewhat different approach — young, online stars from Australia.
The site has put two new names in “red” recently, Jonathan “xMONSTERxDONGx” Karamalikis and Van “Sirens” Marcus.
“It feels great to sign with Full Tilt. There are, in my opinion, the best poker site in the world. I love playing there and I’m looking forward to racking up a few big scores while representing them,” said Karamalikis.
Australian pros from Full Tilt also include Mark Vos, Paul Khoury, and Billy Argyros.
One Aussie that Full Tilt didn’t get is Aussie Millions winner Tyron Krost, who recently signed with PartyPoker.
“It is a dream come true to accept sponsorship,” said Krost. “It is fantastic to become a member of Team PartyPoker.com. Winning the Aussie Millions was a crazy experience for me and the security and opportunity it gives me makes me feel hugely confident about the future.”
Editor’s Note: In an earlier edition of this article, it was reported that Tyron Krost signed with Full Tilt. In fact, he signed with PartyPoker.
