You may not see that slogan on T-shirts and baseball caps just yet, but it’s a motto that Cake Poker Card Room Manager Lee Jones firmly believes in, and it is a way of thinking that has guided Cake Poker through its recent relaunch.
“We have an ecosystem here,” said Jones. “We have a fish population and we have a predator population, and if that gets too out of balance, the whole ecosystem collapses.”
With that concept in mind, Cake Poker 2.0 launched in private beta last week — complete with a number of new changes, including a new feature that allows all players access to their detailed statistics.
“We are the only site that provides this kind of detailed information about your hands,” said Jones, who referred to the new feature as “groundbreaking.”
“We wanted to do something that would help the casual player become better,” said Jones. “We think that’s something that’s good for the whole community. Ultimately, that strengthens the entire ecosystem.”
Jones says the new feature won’t do as much as programs you can purchase like Poker Tracker, but he does believe it will level the playing field a bit.
That is just one of many changes Cake Poker has made to its new software. Some of the other major changes include:
Jones believes these changes will help Cake Poker compete with the major poker sites, saying that with the new features, it’s almost like Cake is “coming into Division I.”
“Our intent is to bring ourselves on par with the major sites,” said Jones. “With the new software, we are coming onto the same playing field.”
The new changes are currently available in private beta, but they will soon be available in public beta in the coming weeks.
