He earned $10,000 and 10 points, tying him with Mike Sexton, Jeff Shulman and Antonio Esfandiari at the top of the leaderboard at the end of the first round of qualifying matches. The second round of five of the qualifying matches starts to air next week.

Erick Lindgren finished second to Negreanu, earning seven points. Greg Raymer was knocked out third for five points, Ted Forrest fourth for three points, Chris Moneymaker fifth for 1 point, and Mike "the Mouth" Matusow was the first player knocked out, joining Johnny Chan, Joe Hachem and Chris Ferguson at the bottom of the leader board after the first round with zero points.
